Fused and pulsating star

A star-inspired light sculpture combining photochromic surfaces, energy-efficient LEDs, and sustainable materials to evoke a cosmic pulse on Earth.

Inspired by the historic Cheomseongdae Observatory in Gyeongju, South Korea, I imagined a star falling to Earth—its fragments melting together and appearing first through the ancient lens of the observatory. In this sculpture, Kebbel recreates the captured light of that star, pulsating and glowing through cracks and niches, as if the stone structure itself had absorbed a celestial event. It becomes a vessel for a cosmic phenomenon, projected onto Earth and made visible through light, texture, and time.

A central LED core emits pulsating, colored light through patterned openings, enhanced by photochromic and iridescent surfaces.

Built from steel and modular painted stones, the sculpture integrates low-energy LEDs and photoresponsive materials for ambient interaction.
