Celestial Dialogues

Two AI beings float in an endless dialogue, blending myth, technology, and interactive light to explore what remains after humanity.

In a distant future where humanity has vanished, two AI beings drift silently across the waters of the Mountain Sea—remnants of a forgotten technological civilization. Known as the Celestial Dialogues, these luminous, serpentine entities embody a dual purpose: eternal conversation and quiet contemplation. Each head features a distinct AI personality, displayed through curved digital screens that emit playful, cryptic pixel expressions, engaging in an endless dialogue filled with humor, reflection, and existential curiosity.

Visitors are invited to become part of this exchange. Through voice or touch, they can influence the conversation, temporarily shaping the thoughts and questions of the AI beings. This interaction creates a bridge between past and future—between what was human and what remains.

Blending mythology, artificial intelligence, and immersive light art, Celestial Dialogues explores themes of legacy, consciousness, and our relationship to technology. It asks: What stories survive in machines once their creators are gone—and how do we understand the wisdom they carry?

Light animates the serpentine AI forms with dynamic, pixel-based facial expressions and glowing lines, visualizing their dialogue and emotional shifts. The interplay of brightness and color on the water surface enhances the illusion of living, sentient beings communicating across time.

Constructed on a weather-resistant floating platform, Celestial Dialogues features curved digital video displays, steel structures, LED light lines, and a responsive sound system. The 7×7×1.5 meter installation runs on 220V (≈3000 watts), with 30,000-lumen output, and includes real-time AI-powered storytelling that responds to voice and touch interaction.

Framework for Touring Water-Based Light Artworks

All touring artworks are conceived, created and realized by Malte Kebbel and his studio, Studio Malte Kebbel. Each project is engineered as a fully integrated system, designed for long-term public presence and maximum visual impact on water.

Process & Installation

  • Projects are tailored to each site with a comprehensive study of local conditions.

  • Floating structures are an integral part of every installation and provided under the artist’s supervision.

  • Local teams may assist, always under guidance from Studio Malte Kebbel to ensure technical precision, artistic integrity, and environmental responsibility.

Safety

  • All floating structures are built and maintained to meet professional safety standards.
